The Slovak National Party (SNS) is a nationalist party registered in 1990, one of the oldest in Slovakia. Since 2012 it has been led by Andrej Danko, Speaker of the National Council in 2016–2020. In 2023 it won 5.6% and 10 seats with a list made up mostly of independents and members of other small parties; after several departures, its group now has 8 MPs.
It has been in Robert Fico’s government with Smer and Hlas since 2023, although in September 2026 most of its MPs backed an opposition no-confidence motion against Deputy Prime Minister Tomáš Taraba, its own nominee. Polls in September and October 2026 put it at 1.5–4.8%. It stresses national sovereignty against EU centralisation, the traditional family, the Slovak language and lower taxes for small firms and the self-employed. Three of its MPs tabled the 2025 amendment to the law on non-governmental organisations, and its 2023 programme called for ending arms deliveries to conflict zones and lifting sanctions.
SNS has a documented position on 42 of the 42 test questions, across 12 topics: 17 in favour, 6 in between and 19 against.
