In brief

How do Smer and SNS differ?

Smer and SNS, partners in government, take the same side on most statements in the test. Both fully oppose re-establishing the Office of the Special Prosecutor and resuming state military aid to Ukraine, and both support lifting EU sanctions on Russia and buying Russian gas and oil after 2027. Both fully support stricter state oversight of NGOs funded from abroad and a state majority stake in large energy companies, and both fully oppose allowing same-sex couples to register their partnership. The clearest difference concerns Ukraine and the EU: Smer supports letting Ukraine join once it meets all the conditions, and SNS firmly opposes it. SNS also supports leaving NATO and withdrawing from the defence cooperation agreement with the United States, while Smer takes a neutral position on both.
