In brief

How do Maďarská aliancia and KDH differ?

The Hungarian Alliance and KDH part ways mainly on energy, Russia and Ukraine. The Hungarian Alliance fully supports a legal cap on electricity and gas prices for all households and supports buying Russian gas and oil after 2027; KDH fully opposes both. KDH fully supports Ukraine joining the EU once it meets the conditions and fully opposes lifting EU sanctions on Russia, while the Hungarian Alliance is neutral on both. The Hungarian Alliance fully supports repealing the 2025 law that makes it a crime to question the Beneš decrees, on which KDH is neutral. They agree on much else: both support re-establishing the Office of the Special Prosecutor, raising defence spending to meet NATO's new target and letting people keep Slovak citizenship when they acquire another, and both oppose stricter state oversight of NGOs funded from abroad.

Differences

Where they clash most

Cost of living and housing

The state should cap electricity and gas prices by law for all households, not only for those on lower incomes.

Maďarská aliancia Strongly in favour
Its 2023 manifesto calls for freezing household electricity prices at 2021 levels until the end of the term; in 2022 it demanded an immediate cap on gas and power prices.
KDH Strongly against
In 2025 its national council demanded that energy aid be targeted rather than universal; its 2023 manifesto keeps regulated energy prices only for vulnerable households.

Economy and taxes

Everyone should pay the same rate of income tax, whatever they earn.

Maďarská aliancia Against
Estimated position: it has not addressed a single rate; its manifesto seeks targeted tax cuts for families with children and a vice-chair said it is fair for the rich to pay more.
KDH Strongly in favour
Its 2023 manifesto proposes a single flat income tax rate for everyone, keeping deductible allowances so that lower earners pay less.

Ukraine and Russia

Slovakia should be able to keep buying Russian gas and oil after 2027.

Maďarská aliancia In favour
Its 2024 European platform says breaking away from Russian oil and gas needs more time and asks the EU for more help to diversify supply.
KDH Strongly against
In 2025 its national council urged the government to cut Slovakia off from Russian energy for good; its 2023 manifesto would cap fuel imports from any single country below 20%.

Minorities

In municipalities with a large Hungarian population, Hungarian should be an official language alongside Slovak.

Maďarská aliancia Strongly in favour
Among its 13 points it proposes a law on the state's official languages that would make Hungarian official and require bilingual administration in Hungarian-inhabited areas.
KDH Against
Estimated position: it supports a national identity rooted in Slovak tradition and peaceful coexistence with minorities, but has not addressed making Hungarian co-official.
